How it works
Most people do not dislike fragrance, they just keep meeting the wrong family. Answer three short questions about when you will wear it, which scents pull you in, and how strong you like it, and this finder points you to the fragrance family that fits your taste, with the notes to look for on the bottle. It works from your preferences only. It does not rank or recommend specific products, and nothing replaces smelling a fragrance on your own skin before you commit.
Find your fragrance
1. When will you wear it most?
2. Which scents pull you in?
3. How strong do you like it?
Next step: explore our Womens Perfumes and Mens Colognes guides, and always test a fragrance on your skin and wait for the dry down before deciding.
Fragrance families at a glance
- Fresh Citrus: bergamot, lemon, neroli and green notes. Bright, clean, made for daytime and warm weather.
- Floral: rose, jasmine, peony and orange blossom. The widest family of all, from light and airy to rich and romantic.
- Warm Amber: vanilla, amber, tonka bean and soft spice. Cozy, sweet and evening leaning.
- Woody: sandalwood, cedar, vetiver and patchouli. Grounded and smooth, often shared by women and men.
- Fruity Floral: berries, peach and pear over soft flowers. Playful and sweet without heaviness.
- Clean Musk: white musk, iris and cotton notes. The fresh laundry direction, your skin but better.
Testing tips
- Test on skin, not only on a paper strip. Paper shows the opening, your skin decides the rest.
- Wait for the dry down, around 30 to 60 minutes, before judging. The base notes are what you will live with.
- Try one fragrance at a time and start with a single spray. Your nose tires fast.
- The same fragrance smells different on different skin, so a friend’s favourite is only a starting point.
- Store bottles away from heat and direct light to keep the scent true.
